Dowels

A dowel is a round rod mechanically made from a square or
rectangular material. In the wood business, a dowel can be
used to make any turning that does not have a square or
flat surface. Examples of a dowel are baseball bats,
table legs, chair legs, and bedposts.

Lewis & Hockenberry has the capability to machine dowels
in various sizes ranging from 7/8" to 3" in diameter.
They are made from standard squares of appropriate cross
section. Since a projection of a circle is made from
corners of a square essentially being cut away, this
allows us to maximize square inventory that may need
to be cut back to a smaller size due to wane or bark.
